GALLERY EVENT
VISITING ARTISTS
Give-and-Take: Poster Design by Nancy Skolos and Thomas Wedell is a gallery exhibition that showcases the work of the acclaimed graphic design/photography duo. For this project, we were tasked with creating designs for materials that promote this event. The challenges with this design are working within the guidelines of a preexisting template as well as creating a design that exemplifies the work of someone else. This is a poster on a poster, a design within a design. I was able to achieve my design intent by pulling from existing colors and creating simple shapes that extenuate features of the existing poster design, as well as following guidelines set out by the template and listening to what promotional objectives were set forth. My design was chosen from a class of around 20 students to be used on posters and postcards to promote this gallery exhibition event.

GALLERY EVENT
STUDENT AWARDS EXHIBITION
My proposed solution for the design of the Student Awards Exhibition posters features abstract brush work. Embedded in each brush stroke is image used texturally to represent various disciplines without being overly specific. A wood texture represents sculpture, woodworking, and possibly furniture. A texture comprised of handles represents the tools an artist might use create their work. A painted texture represents the various mediums an artist can work with. The color scheme brings it all together to create interest. Sometime after this work was selected to be used, I revisited this project and explored additional options.

OPEN STUDIOS
STUDENT WORK EXHIBITION
Open Studios is an annual even held at San Diego State University that showcases artwork of various disciplines. My solutions for these posters to promote this event includes a graphic of the Art+Design Building at SDSU. For this design, I wanted to experiment with bold color combinations and expressive typography.

POEM BROADSIDE
STUDENT AWARDS EXHIBITION
I felt that this poem had a dreadful and dreary overall tone to it. I wanted to reflect that tone with the right image. An image with two fishermen was altered to create the image of the lone fisherman that worked well with the context of the poem. The poem type is laid out to reflect the natural flow of water. This broadside was selected to be featured by Poetry International on the SDSU campus as well as in a printed anthology and on the Poetry International website.
